Daegu University was founded in 1956 as the first institution of higher learning in Korea to commit itself to the education of the disabled. The name was changed to the Korean Social Work University in 1961, and then changed again in 1981 to the current name, Daegu University

Daegu University was authorized to establish The Graduate School in 1973, and has been offering Master’s and Doctoral level courses since then. The Graduate School of Social Welfare, The Graduate School of Education, The Graduate School of Industrial Information, The Graduate School of Rehabilitation, and The Graduate School of Special Education were established in succession. The Graduate School of Public Administration, The Graduate School of International Management, and The Graduate School of Design were established in 2002.

Currently there are over 2,000 students enrolled in Master’s and Doctoral level courses at the 9 graduate schools in Daegu University and over 700 foreign students are enrolled in the University.
