The DU Graduate School of Social Welfare curriculum is designed to develop expertise in both professional knowledge and practice and prepares students to become a social work professional, educator, or researcher. The DU Graduate School of Social Welfare launched a Master’s degree program in 1974 and a PhD degree program in 1977 respectively. As of October 2018, 389 students received a Master’s degree, and 108 students received a PhD degree. And about 90 graduates are currently working as a professor nationwide, which proves that the DU Graduate School of Social Welfare provides extensive and advanced professional knowledge for our students to enhance their academic and research performance. The school offers two majors; social welfare policy and social work practice. These majors help students to recognize a wider range of social needs and to contribute to the development of social welfare.
Academic Objectives
1. Prepare professional social workers who can develop effective strategies to rapidly adapt to the social changes by acquiring professional knowledge and skills and applying them to practice.
2. Prepare social welfare professionals who can tackle social problems competently by using principles and theories in social welfare appropriately.
3. Prepare social welfare leaders and research specialists who could take an active role in coping with future social changes.

In this course, students familiarize themselves with the concept of qualitative research and the difference between it and quantitative research, and develop the ability to analyze social welfare phenomena in a naturalistic and qualitative way.
