According to the dynamic growth of disability movement, disability discourse has been introduced in Korea, and demand for disability strudies was increasing in Korea from 2000s. However there was no place in Korea where someone could study disability studies. In order to systematically nurture researchers in disability studies who analyze and explore the political, economic, social, cultural, and historical factors and contexts that define disability, the master's program was established for the first time in Korea in 2018. The doctoral program was also established for the first time in Korea In 2020,
Academic Objectives
Contribution to the development of disability studies: To investigate the reality of a ‘disabling society’ by mobilizing various humanities and social science methods.
Contribution to improving the quality of life of disabled poeple: To Prepare alternatives to eliminate social exclusion, oppression and discrimination against disabled poeple
Contribution to the construction of an inclusive society: To contribute to the construction of a society in which disabled people and non-disabled people are united together.
Specifically, through the master's and doctoral programs, we aim to foster professionals who can play the following roles.
· To contribute to the development of professional competence and capacity building of disabled people based on the perspective of disability studies.
· To Broaden the academic and practical horizons of disability issues by playing a role in promoting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research in various humanities and social sciences.
· To facilitate mutual cooperation between disability-related researchers and groups of disabled people.
· To revitalize the disability studies community.
